Switch accounting software from MYOB, Xero, QuickBooks, Reckon or Sage

Bring your books with you

Kontuly converts a business from MYOB AccountRight, Xero, QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Desktop, Reckon Accounts, Sage 50 or Sage Accounting, or from any package that exports CSV or Excel. You bring your chart of accounts, contacts, opening balances and every unpaid invoice and bill, and Kontuly checks they agree before anything is imported.

What comes across when I switch?

Your chart of accounts, customers and suppliers, account balances as at the day before you start in Kontuly, and each unpaid invoice, bill and unapplied credit as its own document, ready to be paid or chased.

Your bank accounts start reconciled to the converted balance, and Kontuly can lock everything before the conversion date so older figures can't change by accident.

What doesn't come across?

Your full transaction history. Kontuly starts from balances, the same way most accountants convert a business between packages. Keep your old file, or its reports, for looking things up.

A business can be converted once. Kontuly takes a backup before importing, so if you need to redo it you restore that backup and start again.

How to switch

How do I move my books to Kontuly?

Choose a conversion date, usually the start of a BAS quarter or financial year, and run five reports in your old package as at the day before. Kontuly's convert wizard shows you where each report is in your package.

Contacts or a chart of accounts can also be imported on their own at any time, without converting.

  1. Pick your conversion dateYour first day in Kontuly. Everything is brought across as at the day before.
  2. Run five reports in your old packageChart of accounts, contacts, trial balance, aged receivables and aged payables, as CSV, Excel (.xlsx), text or IIF files.
  3. Check the previewKontuly matches the columns, then shows whether your unpaid invoices and bills agree with the trial balance. You can fix a column or pick an account before going on.
  4. ImportA backup is taken first. Any difference goes to a Historical Adjustment account for you or your accountant to clear.
  5. Check against your old packageCompare Kontuly's Trial Balance and aged reports with the ones you exported. When they agree, you're ready to work.

By package

Switching from your current software

MYOB AccountRight

Why people are moving: since 17 June 2026, AccountRight's PC Edition only opens company files stored online. Kontuly keeps your books in a file on your own computer, the way AccountRight used to.

Export your accounts list, customer and supplier cards, trial balance and aged receivables and payables from AccountRight as text or CSV. Kontuly reads MYOB's account numbers and tab-separated files.

MYOB's report layouts vary between versions. Check the column preview before importing.

Xero

Why people are moving: they'd rather buy software once than pay monthly, or want their books on their own computer.

Export the chart of accounts, contacts, trial balance and aged receivables and payables from Xero as CSV or Excel. Kontuly uses the same conversion-balance approach Xero itself uses when bringing a business in.

QuickBooks Online

Why people are moving: subscription costs, and a preference for local, offline books.

Export the account list, customer and supplier lists, trial balance and A/R and A/P ageing reports as Excel or CSV. If your file has US-style dates, check the date column in the preview.

QuickBooks Desktop

Why people are moving: they want to stay on the desktop with software that's built for Australian GST and BAS.

Export reports to Excel (save as .xlsx or CSV), or lists as IIF. Older .xls files need to be opened in Excel and saved as .xlsx or CSV first.

Reckon Accounts

Why people are moving: they want desktop accounting that keeps up with the BAS, without a hosted subscription.

Export your reports from Reckon Accounts to Excel or CSV, or your lists as IIF. Kontuly reads all three.

Sage 50 and Sage Accounting

Why people are moving: a simpler, Australian-first package that stays on their computer.

Export the nominal (chart of accounts), customer and supplier lists, trial balance and aged debtors and creditors as CSV. Choose Sage 50 or Sage Accounting in the wizard to load the right column presets.

Using something else, or spreadsheets? Choose "Other" in the convert wizard and map your CSV or Excel columns yourself. Files can be up to 25 MB and 50,000 rows.

Switching questions

When is the best time to switch?

At the start of a BAS period or financial year, so one package has a whole period. You can convert at any date, though, and Kontuly locks the books before it.

What is the Historical Adjustment account?

An equity account that holds any difference between your trial balance and the unpaid invoices and bills you imported. When everything agrees it ends at zero. If it doesn't, your accountant clears it with a journal.

Will my GST still be right after converting?

Yes. On a cash basis, if you give a tax code for open documents, the GST inside each unpaid invoice and bill is reported when it's paid, as it would have been in your old package.

Can I keep using my old software during the beta?

Yes, and beta testers should. Run Kontuly alongside your current package until you're confident the figures agree.

Does Kontuly integrate with Xero, MYOB or QuickBooks?

No. Kontuly reads and writes files in their import and export formats. There's no live connection, sync or partnership with any of them.
